Introducing the Problem
Initially, the head of production reached out for freelance sewing services.
As a DTC tech startup in Seattle, Bombsheller made on-demand leggings in a rare vertical manufacturing space.
Better known for providing sizing up to 6XL, we had the BEST customers. And a niche for comic books with collabs that featured the brightest, boldest patterns.
Conversations, fit sessions, and barre studios kept saying one thing. Make solid colors.
I pitched an idea to develop black leggings. But received a “no” that it veered too far into athleisure basics.
Still, our customers continued to ask. Prospective customers also asked. Nearly all wanted a wider waistband.
Goals
Hit sales goals at Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC).
Drive new products/collections to boost sales.

Unapologetically badass.
Our brand voice in the era of girl squads and girl bosses.
And a playful, cheekier tone as bold as our patterns.
Working at this scrappy startup gave me the chance to wear a lot of hats—or LEGGINGS—in manufacturing, product development, project management, event planning, social media marketing, and copywriting.
Since I speak comic books…a stealth nerd, according to our head of production, I got sent to Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) to meet our customers.
The team asked me to work on social media, specifically Instagram where social campaign series had been established, e.g. #BombshellerBabe of the week, features, and customer reposts.
For our April Fools’ Day 2018 campaign (as pictured below), we revamped our brand voice to launch Bombsheller’s first pair of solid black leggings. While the rebrand was a joke, the leggings were real. We listened to our customers and added our first wide waistband.
